Fuel prices set to rise past £1.25 per litre

Petrol prices are set to go up by approximately £7 a tank full, compared with the same period in 2009, and further increases are expected over the summer holidays this year.

Geographically you may also pay more per litre, it is anticipated that during the summer holidays people in the south east are likely to pay the most. When you add this to the Government Budget 2010 plans to increase fuel duty in the coming months and put VAT up to 20% in January 2012 motor costs are set to steadily rise.

The figures come from RMI Petrol, which speaks for about two-thirds of Britain’s forecourts.

High petrol prices have knock on effects for the wider economy as they feed through to higher transport and food costs.
